How To Create A Password Page In Squarespace
While you’re building a new page on your website, you might want to set a password for it before adding any new content. This will tell search engines not to index the page.
Pages that are password-protected can be used for a number of reasons, such as:
A client portal (so that your clients can access images, files, walk-through tutorials, and any other resources needed for their project)
A resource library for site visitors (freebies for readers, etc.)
Exclusive pages that only specific members can access (i.e. newsletter subscribers)
Special sign-up forms or application forms
Post-drafted content that you want someone else to have access to
Before you begin, please note the following:
Passwords are case-sensitive
Create your password so that it is simple to remember but no so simple that anyone could guess it
Users must re-enter the page password again once their session expires (after 4 hours). It isn’t possible to “log out” of a current user session
You must have a good method to deliver your password to users
To create a page that is password protected in Squarespace, follow the steps listed:
Step 1: Select Pages in the Home Menu
Step 2: Select the page you would like password-protected
Step 3: Open the Page Settings by selecting the gear icon on the right of the page title
Step 4: Scroll down to the password option and enter your chosen password in the box
Step 5: Choose Save. A lock icon will display next to the page title in the Page’s panel
Step 6: Test it out by opening up a new incognito window/tab. Open up your password-protected page and login using your new password
Design the lock screen
A default lock screen will be displayed when visiting the page’s URL (the default screen is displayed below). You can customize this by using the Lock Screen tweak in the Design panel of your Squarespace settings.
